5th Annual Holocaust Remembrance Day
"Art was their weapon, music, their resistance", as depicted in the award winning documentary, "Defiant Requiem, Verdi at Terezin". This documentary chronicles the little known story about the resilience of the human spirit. Defiant Requiem highlights how a rare form of courage, hope and survival sparked an entirely unique method of fighting Nazi oppression, battling the worst of mankind with the best of mankind. The story is about performing the Verdi Opera, the Requiem and also tells what happened in this "model" concentration camp.
Linda Dubin, local resident and host will give a brief introduction followed by guest speaker Esther Levy. Esther Levy, author of "A Tale of Terezin: Legacies, Lies and Lullabies, The World of a Second Generation Holocaust Survivor", will present a brief talk on her book. The book will be available for sale and signing. Coffee and desserts will be served.
