Young Readers Book Review Club
Reaching out to our young readers, let us know what you're reading! Submit a book review of your favorite book, series or title you just finished reading. Review forms can be printed or filled out using this PDF form or you can write your own. Like to draw? Submit a "picture review" or your favorite part in a book.
Send your reviews to Miss Beth at bverblaauw@rcls.org or drop them off at the library - now through February 23. Prizes will be awarded at the end of our first session in February. Book club is open to children of all ages.
Dungeons & Dragons Game for Tweens/Teens
Calling all Young Adults to come play "Dungeons and Dragons"- a pen and paper role playing game (RPG). These characters embark upon imaginary adventures within a fantasy setting. A Dungeon Master (DM) serves as the game's referee and storyteller, while maintaining the setting in which the adventures occur, and playing the role of the inhabitants of the game world. The characters form a party and they interact with the setting's inhabitants and each other. Players act as a group of adventurers working together to complete quests, slay monsters, and achieve their own personal goals.
The Florida Public Library will be hosting the Dungeons & Dragons program over Zoom for 4th grade through high school!
After you register below, an e-mail will be sent to you with an invitation to the Zoom game through the email provided at the time of sign up. Sign up for each event that you plan to attend.

Books & Beyond is a weekly series of programs for kids in grades K– 2. Each week we'll feature books about art and/or artists. In January, we will learn how to use our whittling kit. In the remaining sessions, we'll combine art & science to create art to share in the library!
Each week, kits will be available to pick up the Saturday before. A new session will premiere each week at 3:30 p.m. on our Facebook page. Please register below to ensure enough supplies are available for everyone. Register once for all 5 sessions.

January 26 - Create an actual whittle project using sticks & wood. Paint your project to create a woodland gnome & hut.
February 2 - Experiment with oil, paint & nail polish to see the effect it has on different types of paper.
February 9 - Bleeding tissue paper art.

February 23 - Mixing salt with paint to create texture in your art.

Learn to Draw - Sketching
Sketch animals or your favorite pet with Shawn Dell Joyce. Learn to see the values and shading that you will need to complete your drawing. You will be drawing two animals (below). Shawn will put the photos on the screen and screen share them. The only supplies you need are a pencil, eraser and paper of your choice. If you have a pet to draw, you may use a photo of your pet instead.

Sketch flowers with Shawn Dell Joyce using simple shapes and values. Learn to see the values and shading in a Bird of Paradise and sketch it using simple shapes. Then make a painting using watercolors based on the sketch. To learn more about Shawn, visit her website: shawndelljoyce.com.
Materials List: Set of pan watercolors and pointed round brush, pencil, regular paper, and cold press (rough) watercolor paper (8x10 to 11x14), cup of water, paper towels, and printed photo. Supplies of paper, paint and brush may be picked up at the library starting February 20.

Storytime
Storytime is for preschoolers age 3-5 years. We begin a new start time this series at 11:00 a.m.! Storytime will be full of winter fun including stories, songs, crafts and experiments. The wintry kits for each week will be available beginning that Monday. Please register to receive the Zoom link and to ensure enough supplies are available for everyone. Register once for all 5 sessions.

E'lissa Jones is a beautiful singer, prolific songwriter, violinist, pianist, and guitarist. She is an exceptionally talented artist with a wide range whose songs embrace audiences with powerful melodies and expressive lyrics. Influential styling ranges from folk to rock in her catalogue of over 250 original songs.
Born into a musically gifted family, E'lissa began singing and playing piano around the age of five. Jones wrote her first song at the age of seven and began studying violin at the age of ten. By eleven, she was writing love songs and short classical works for violin and piano. While classically trained as a violinist, E'lissa is largely self-taught as a vocalist and a plethora of other instruments she performs with.
E'lissa has toured the world as a backup singer as well as the exceptional artist that she is. Throughout her career she has performed and toured with many legends and has recorded and released six albums, Shadows from her teenage years (1997), This Melodie (2003), Anymore (2008), Sweet as the Sun (2010), Like Water (2011), CD Fire & Sun (2015), & her latest single Forever Girl (2017). E'lissa's music has been used in the soundtrack of the film Strings Attached and the film When the Dust Settles.
